REFINERIES’ WOES PUSH PRICE OF GAS EVER UPWARD

Oil fineries across America have experienced a record number of natural disasters lately. There have been fires, power failures, leaks, spills, and breakdowns. The disruptions are helping gas prices steadily raise to last summer’s records. There have been firs at refineries in Louisiana, Texas, Indiana, and California. Some of them were even caused be lightening strikes. Operations at power plants have been disrupted due to power losses. One-third of the 150 refineries have reported disruptions to their operations since the beginning of this year. U.S. refiners are running roughly 5 percent below their normal level levels at this time of the year.

I think that these spills and fires are happening for a reason. More disasters are happening now than have never happened this bad ever before. I think its Bush’s fault and we should all blame him.

What's Shakin` at Amusement Park, USA.

This morning I had read about theme parks. They are doing many changes to theme parks around the U.S. They are taking and re-building roller coasters. While they re-build other roller coasters they are adding more water rides. They are re-building them to make them either faster and some that are old they are “upgrading” them. This year of 2007 many people are disappointed because the coasters of 2007 at amusement parks across the US are not record breaking. One roller-coaster that they are re-building they are re-engineering and it is going to make it a little less thrilling. But they’re going to be NEW roller coasters that are MORE EXTREME.

I enjoyed reading this article because I am a BIG FAN of roller coasters, and they’re one of my favorite things in this world. I’m disappointed by the fact that they are taking other roller coasters away, but yet they are adding some more. And I cant wait to ride them.

This morning I read an article titled Robber takes money from Wells Fargo Bank. On Saturday, a man stating he had a gun, robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Third Avenue near K street in Chula Vista. Around 1 p.m. he walked into the bank and handed a demand note to a teller. The note claimed that he had a gun, but no weapon was seen. The thief was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, unshaven, dressed in mirrored sunglasses, an off-white cowboy hat and a dark long-sleeved shirt. I thought
the most interesting fact was that he handed a note to the teller, I think that is a smooth way to rob a bank.

Serial rapist out after 30 years in custody.

In San Rafael, a convicted serial rapist has been released after being in custody for about 30 years. He is known as the "Lincol Avenue Rapist". His name is Patrick Ghilotti, and he is now 51 years old. Ghilotti is known as the worst case in california as a rapist. In his condition of being released, according to Jessica's Law, he is to registure himself as a sex offender every 90 days. After finishing his sentence, he spent seven years in the Atascadero State Hospital. In 2001, he was poised to become the first graduate of California's rehabilitation program for the worse rapists and child molesters until he refused to accept the terms of his release. As he finally was brought back home to his wife, he was voluntarily castrated.

I wouldn't really trust an Ex-rapist living back on the street who has a very big record. This man will most likely not learn his lesson. He missed 30 good years of his life, which probably made him angry by living in jail too long. He could be serious about living a better life now, but it is way too long to turn back now. It could also be an act, he could calm down with his acts and later on just do everything all over again.

Title: Rape case shows necessity of interpreters.

8 Sentence Summary:
A 7 year old girl said that she was raped and repeatedly molested over a year. The police had everything needed to take the case to court but the only thing that was missing was an interpreter. They needed the interpreter for the suspect because the suspect only spoke his/her native language. The person that was being accused was Mahamu Kanneh. A judge recently dropped the charges. The reason why the judge dropped the charges was because repeated delays in the case, in her view, violated his right to a speedy trial. The person that was supposed to be in charge of getting an interpreter was Loretta E. Knight. Linguists estimate that 100,000 people speak Vai, mostly in Liberia and Sierra Leone. If Kanneh is found guilty while going through trial, than the State’s Attorney will have to go onto his deportation proceedings. It is very rare that the court can’t find an interpreter that a case must be dropped. Court interpreters and linguists say a national database of court interpreters would help quickly locate people fluent in uncommon languages. Knight said the county spent nearly $1 million on interpreters last year which is 10 times the account that was spent in 2000.

3 Sentence Reflection:
I don’t think that it’s fair to drop the charges just because there is not interpreter. I believe that it’s just a sorry excuse to drop the case because if they really wanted to find an interpreter, they would have done so. I know that regardless of the circumstances the court hearing should proceed.

Union Tribune; Some Answers to the sex abuse scandal.
This scandal began in 2002. There were a lot of people saying that they had been abused by Roman Catholic priests when they were minors. There were about 150 cases involving Sand Diego priests and other church personnel. Many people have many questions about this subject and are really confused about what has been going on. Many people ask why these people didn’t come forward before? Many experts think that the reason they couldn’t come forward before was; anger, fear of not being believed. An expert says that most people that have been sexually abused they never come out until years later. People are wondering how many priests were implicated in this situation. The diocese has released names of 38 priests with credible allegations of sexually abusing minors over seven decades. Most of these priests are either dead or out of the ministry. Only one of the priests was known to be serving in a Tijuana archdiocese. Their attorney says that they have at least 31 additional names. The clergy sex-abuse cases cost the U.S. catholic church 660 million dollars. The diocese has offered 95 million and an average of 633,000 based on 150 cases. Within the next weeks they will be trying to find a way out of this. I think that what those priest did was wrong and no amount of money is going to take away the damage did to them.
