Man gets six years for crash that kills son.
The article that I read today was about a man named Rodrigo Mendoza. It was on may 5 that his son died. His sons name was Brian and he was six years old. He died in an accident caused by his dad Rodrigo. The accident was a car crash because his dad was driving under the influence of alcohol. Yesterday the elder Mendoza was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to three felonies stemming from the crash. Mendoza's relatives and his attorney asked for leniency arguing Brian's death was sufficient punishment. Superior court judge Aaron Katz disagreed, finding Mendoza's behavior callous and despicable.
I think that this article was pretty sad. And I think that he didn’t get a fair and just sentence. I agree with the family and the attorney that he has had enough punishment
One interesting thing that I learned was that since the son wasn’t wearing a seatbelt he flew out of the car and died but the other two sons that were in the car were wearing a seatbelt and were uninjured

MARIJUANA USE LINKED TO PSYCHOSIS IN REPORT
Risk of mental illness is increased by 40%

Using marijuana seems to increase the chance of becoming psychotic. The new review to see if pot is dangerous suggests that even the infrequent uses of weed could raise the small but real risk. The latest findings mean doctors need to highlight marijuana’s long-term risks. The research is going to be published in the medical journal The Lancet. This new evidence shows that cannabis is not as harmless as everybody thinks. Scientists think that it’s not just weed that’s doing this but it’s also considering if the people use other drugs along with it. Scientists saw a more disturbing outlook for heavy users. Their risk for psychosis was 50 to 200 percent higher than people that did not smoke.

I think this article is not justified. I haven’t seen any proof for myself by any of my friends having that disorder. I think these scientists have to study better before they come back in the paper with this.

Ship engine’s tumble brings tons of trouble.
♥-----------------------------------------------------------------------♥
The article that I read this morning was about a diesel engine that was headed for the national Steel & Shipbuilding Co. that fell off a trailer and crushed several parked vehicles on Harbor Drive early yesterday. The accident caused a water main break. The engine that was suppose to be installed in a navy ship weighed about 200 tons. The engine landed on at least 3 vehicles. In one of the cars there was a women sleeping. She was able to get out, with minor injuries. The engine crashed the cars and opened a 16 in cast-iron water main. The water main was buried beneath the street, but the weight of the engine was a little more then people had expected. And broke through the concrete floor.

I liked reading this article because I was able to see the scene with my own eyes and now I know what happened. I feel sorry for the people who own the cars. What if they had something very valuable? I don’t know, but I think that’s way sad.

♥ Around Our Region
♥ This morning I read news in brief summaries of county wide interest. In Chula Vista, former city engineer Scott tulloch has been named Chula Vista's assisstant city manager for development services. He is replacing former assisstant city manager Dana Smith. Also, Lake Morena water is declared safe for drinking. County officals say the water from a small system at Lake Morena is now safe to drink. The county lifted a boil-water order yesterday for the Lake Morena Views Mutual Water Company, which serves 118 home, plus a barber shop, and a gas station. Last, I read about an ice cream social being held to raise money for a survey of Chula Vista's historical buildings. The Ultimate Open House Ice Cream Social will on August 18 in the historic Queen Anne-style home of Chula Vista's founder, Col. William.
♥ The most interesting I read about was that the lake water at Lake Morena was declared safe for drinking.

*Vick might be finished
Michael Vick could end up both in jail and wounded financially because of his alleged involvement in dog fighting, according to a San Diego attorney with expertise in sports law. Vick leaves the courthouse after pleading not guilty to dog fighting charges. In cases involving celebrities, Godes said the government proceeds with particular vigor. I thought it was interesting how Michael wants the world to know that there is nowhere he would rather be right now than in training camp with his teammates. Vick received a nine-year contract from the Atlanta Falcons valued at $130 million. Vick was greeted by loud boos from protesters across the street mixed with cheers from supporters. Vick was deeply involved in the operation, attending fights and paying off bets when his dogs lost. He was also accused of helping execute losing dogs by methods such as hanging, drowning and electrocution. If convicted, Vick faces up to six years in prison.♣♣♣

This morning I read two articles. The first article was titled Man shot dead on street in Mountain View area. Last night on Superior street in the Mountain View region, am man was shot and killed At about 10:40 p.m., witnesses called police to report that they had heard gunshots. The victim was pronounced dead shortly there after. The assailant might have driven away in a blue Chevrolet Avalanche with a Chargers bolt on the back. This hooting took place between 38th and 39th streets and might be related to a shooting that took place earlier on 37th street and Imperial avenue. In both situations the gunman was described as a Latino male in a dark hooded sweatshirt. The second article was titled Bearded robber strikes at Union Bank branch. The robbery was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Third avenue near Palomar street on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said the robber gave a teller a note demanding money. He claimed he had a gun, but he did not show it. The most interesting fact from the first one was that the guy would commit two shootings within a three block radius, that just stupid. The most interesting fact from the second one was that I read another article this week that was almost exactly the same.

FBi's Role in convictions called "Shocking"

In Washington, Boston was the area where 73 year old Peter Limone was released from prison after his 33 year sentence. The judge also rewarded him $26 Million dollars, and his wife over $1 Million dollars. They were rewarded money because of the FBI's wrongful murder convictions to four men who were supposedly guilty with the killing of Edward "Teddy" Deegan. Judge Nancy Gertner said the FBI knew that the star witness of the murder trial against the agency's war against the mafia was lying when he identified the "murderers". The FBI lied to the government, crying for more witnesses to step up and be part of the trial. And all along, their lie had been well hidden. The FBI agents knew it was a lie when Mafia Hitman "The Animal" Barboza lied when he named Joseph Salvati, Peter Limone, Henry Tameleo, and Louis Greco as Deegans Killers. Tameleo and Greco died in prison but Salvati and limone spent 3 decades in prison and the families of other men sued the federal government for malicious prosecution. The government paid a record of $101 Million dollars to the 4 men who were incarcerated wrongfully. Since two of them were dead, the money went to their families. Limone says he wants the money because he wants his children and grandchildren to have something that he's never had. He also wishes that this mistake never happens to any one else. It is said that the Boston Mobsters had a great relationship with the FBI agents. The FBI covered up a lot of their work. A few FBI agents were sentenced up to 10 years in prison. The $101.75 Million dollars were split up in many ways. It was also the largest amount of money ever given out for a wrongful conviction case. " Gartner awarded $26 million to Limone, $29 million to Salvati, $13 million to Tameleo's estate and $28 million to Greco's estate. The wives of Limone and Salvati and the estate of Tameleo's deceased wife each recieved more than $1 million. The mens 10 children were each rewarded $250,000.

The most interesting thing i found out about this article was that usually when people are arrested for something they did not do, the case is not fully solved. There are so many people that are doing time for things that they are not guilty for. These 4 men were lucky to be found innocent. It is sad that some of them died before they could find out that they would be released 30 years later. But It is also interesting how everyone in the family was paid money. Not just a little bit of money either. Every child that was born from one of the men each got 250 thousand dollars. Wives got over 1 million dollars and the men that were in there got over millions of dollars. I think that the world is improving now that they are capable of figuring out mistakes that were taken during murder trials.

Article: Marijuana use linked to psychosis in report
Researchers say that there could be a change of those marijuana smokers to get some kind of psychotic disorder. Many are doing research on whether pot could be dangerous or not. Statements from a new review are saying that even infrequent use of the drug can raise the chances to about 40% of a real risk at a mental illness. Many people believe that cannabis is no harm. But researchers now state that they have no actual proof of evidence that it can increase risk of psychosis, or one of the topics widely known as schizophrenia. One thing that is really known about the use of marijuana is that, for some fraction of those who are potheads the use of marijuana can sometimes lead to the use of other drugs, & at time after a while of using the illegal substance many people attitude and behavior changes. You only see a small fraction of students who use the illegal drug that actually are a bit on task and do their work. But even though there is still that small fraction of those school students with straight A’s that still smoke bud, it doesn’t mean that the use of marijuana helps them do work better. But of course marijuana gets you lazy and for some really off task. Colleagues from University of Bristol, Imperial College, and also students from Cambridge University discovered that those who do use marijuana have a 40% chance of developing a psychotic disorder later in life. But the over all risk still remains low. Users that use the drug daily or weekly, have a 50% to 200% of any disorders than those who do not use the substance. One thing I didn’t understand was that why did researchers seem to be so certain that the use of marijuana can cause some kind of psychosis disorder if they had no real evidence. I think to myself can this really be true or can they make all this up to scare marijuana users?....

Title: FBI’s role in convictions called “shocking”.

8 Sentence Summary:
In Boston a federal judge ordered the government to pay $101 million dollars. The reason why the FBI had to pay back money was because they took a role in the 1968 wrongful murder convictions. About 4 men were convicted and the FBI was being accused of condemned misconduct. The people that took part of the convictions went all the way of to the FBI director. Nancy Gertner said that there are 200 pages worth of charges against the FBI. She said that the charges leveled against the nation’s law enforcement agency “shocking” and the government’s defense “absurd”. The four suspects were being accused of being responsible for the 1965 slaying of Edward “Teddy” Deegan. Edward Deegan was a small-time thug that was shot in an alley. Gertner said Boston FBI agents knew Mafia hitman Joseph “The Animal” Barboza lied when he named Joseph Salvati, Peter Limone, Henry Tameleo and Louis Greco as Deegan's killers. At the time of Deegan's slaying, Tameleo and Limone were reputed leaders of the New England Mafia, while Greco and Salvati had minor criminal records.

3 Sentence Reflection:
I think that this article proves to the people that the system is crooked. I also think that it wasn’t fair for the 4 men to get sentenced for something they didn’t do, each man got about 3 decades taken away from them, and not even money can replace that. I think that the guys and their families should have gotten more money than that.
