Title: San Diego Union Tribune This article is about Michael Vick and him being guilty of dog fighting. The indictment against Michael Vick said that as recently as April he participated in the execution of eight dogs. Vick previously denied being at the property where the alleged dog fighting operation was based, but this is just like saying Barry Bonds didn’t take performance enhancers. Emmitt Smith thinks federal investigators targeted Atlanta Falcons quarter back Mike Vick to get to others involved in an alleged dog fighting operation.
The San Diego Union Tribune The article that I read today was about a Kmart guard. It says that he was shot and killed. It says that the man set off the alarm when he walked out of the stores garden shop toward the parking lot. The security guard followed and a brief struggle ensued. Then a second guard noticed the commotion and stepped in to help. At that point the suspect drew a hand gun and fired at the first guard, fatally wounding him. The witnesses disarmed the gunman. They wrestled him to the ground, handcuffed and held him until the deputy arrived. The gunman was identified as Andrew Nicholas Griffith. I think that this article is pretty interesting because of the bravery of the witnesses. There aren’t many people that would do what they did. One interesting thing that I learned is that there is a Kmart in Ramona. I thought that there weren’t any left.
Jack Vessey knew he’d never raise his crops the same again after he took a look at his late-winter spinach fields. He is one of Imperial Valley’s largest growers who were struck by this outbreak. Nearly all the state’s growers have signed to the Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement which started on Monday. Producers say this is the closest they can get to preventing E. coli contaminations. Critics say a mandatory government program would be more likely to ensure food safety. The marketing agreement covers most lettuce, spinach, and cabbage. Nearly all leafy greens will be covered due to 98 to 99 percent of California’s growers signing the agreement. The E. coli breakout in September caused a $100 million loss for California’s $160 million spinach crop, and sales are still off. I think this article shows the point of view of Americans and what they have been through in the last few months. I agree with this article because it is showing that people in charge do care about the lives of the people residing here. I like that Vessey shows concern about this problem happening. Three people were killed and more than 200 people were sickened last fall.
The article that I read this morning was about gay pride. There were many people there at gay pride parade to support each other. There were straight, bisexual, lesbians, and transexuals there. It was beautiful. Floats and balloons. Flags. very colorful. People went there to support the fact that they believe in free love. There was an area where they had men yelling and screamin that homosexuality was a sin. The police had taken care of it telling the public that they dont choose sides. There wasnt any arrest this year, or any BIG TROUBLES. I enjoyed reading this article because i was there at the event. And i like to see what other people have to say from there point of view.
Going, Going, Gone! 'World' imagines Earth after we're outta here.
Everyone always wonders what the world will be like in the future. Will cars be modified? What about the buildings? Who will take over the world after the human race dies out? Science writer and journalism professor Alan Weisman wrote books about how he feels the world will be. He talks about how things fall apart fast. That new buildings will not last like the old ones did. Many writers are writing about future revolution. I think this article was weird because it seemed like it didn't really have a big point to it. It basically just made you think about what the world would be like in the future. No one can predict the future so i don't think they can tell people what things will happen in the future.
The article that I chose to read this morning was titled jury weighs fate of cops accused in beating. This article was about a savage beating that took place in Milwaukee . This beating was the act of four police officers that accused an innocent young man of stealing a sheriffs badge. the four officers were of dotty the day this took place. They accused frank Jude jr.and his friend Lovell Harris of the crime suspected. Jude who is biracial and Harris who is black claim to have heard racial slur's. as many as 15 people including the defendants were accused of punching Jude, kicking and stomping his head, jabbing a pencil in his ears, cutting of his jacket and pants, and bending back two of his fingers. one of the officers even cut his face with a knife. A picture was shown in court of judes bloody swollen face. Jude indeed had taken that badge and it was said in court that one of the officers punched Jude three to four times because he was resisting then cut his jacket so that he could breath. I think that maybe Jude had bin exaggerating the truth a little I thought that maybe the officers may have bin lying to I feel that justice was not served that day.
This morning I red two articles from the business section. The first article was titled Survey: 64% see stocks rising. On Friday, a consumer survey showed that consumers thought there was a 64% chance that a diversified stock fund would raise in value . The survey was through Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers. Consumers were more likely to look forward to increases in stock prices than at any time since 2002. The meltdown from the 1990s trend of internet stocks hit bottom in October 2002. The survey also showed a hope for stocks to reach a five-tear high in July. The second article was titled 2 firms to fund H&R Block mortgage arm. A number of lenders will keep on funding H&R Block’s concerned sub prime mortgage division until it can be sold later this year. Citigroup Global Markets and UBS Real Estate Securities have decided fro the funding of the company’s Option One Mortgage Corp. Option One is based in Irvine. It has been hurt by a meltdown in the sub prime mortgage market. Option One lends money to people with blemished credit. In April, H&R Block stated that Cerberus Capital Management would buy Option One.
The NBA is in trouble if referees cant be trusted. Stern has tackled scandals before, like on-court brawls, drugs, and player attire. This NBA scandal is more dangerous. Fans merely ask that what they’re watching is real. An NBA official artificially adjusting calls, for gambling reasons, is more directly and definitively influential, even with two other officials on the crew and those crews changing night to night. If it is discovered that Donaghy merely toyed with point differences or totals, rather than winners and losers, that doesn’t soften the scandal. I thought it was interesting how one point corruptly achieved can corrupt every point that follows, and accidents can occur; a call to get under a point spread could lead to a comeback victory. Fans can accept some institutional unfairness, or some occasional incompetence. This is Stern’s worst-case scenario.♣♣♣
8 Sentence Summary: Thousands of people of making lawsuits against Roman Catholic priests. The reason why they are suing their local priest is because they claim that they were abused by them when they were minors. About 150 cases are involving San Diego priests and other church personnel starting from the 1930’s. On Feb. 27, San Diego became the fifth diocese to file for Chapter `` bankruptcy protection. On Feb. 28th the first of the 150 lawsuits were set to go to trial. The diocese said it hoped to work out a plan that would fairly compensate victims without crippling the church’s ministries. An Orange County lawyer named John Manly said that if church’s go through bankruptcy than they are trying to keep the truth from coming out. A.W Richard Sipe said that the average age of all sexual-abuse victims in the country is 12 and the average age of disclosure is 42. A.W Richard Sipe is a psychotherapist in La Jolla. He was a former priest and is a consultant on behalf of the plaintiffs.
3 Sentence Reflection: I don’t think that it’s fair that the judge believes the plaintiffs took too long to come forward because when it comes to a situation like this, its hard to open up to people. I don’t understand why priests, people let alone, have to molest children or teenagers. I also don’t think its fair that priests believe that they can do whatever they please just because he’s a priest and a “child of God”.
The article that I chose to read this morning was titled the fight for Iraq. This article was about a car bombing that took place in Baghdad. Do to this ludicrous behavior 25 people were killed and 110 people were injured. as reported by the authorities. the car bomb tore right threw a crowded market in central Bagdad. the explosion also set a three story apartment on fire. the explosion was the latest in a string of car bombs. more than 50 people have bin killed In seven car bombings in the neighborhood that month. They did not manage to find out who caused the bombing . But the u.s and Iraq came up with a solution to set up a security committee with Iraq. I think that the bombing is just another act due to the war against the u.s and Iraq. I feel that this security plan will work out great I thought that was a very wise solution that the two countries came up with.
Union Tribute Article: Barona faces challenge over liquor license Neighbors from Barona at Wild cat Canyon, say that due to Barona liquor license there have been more risks, and lives in danger. Since liquor is now sold in Barona Casino, many gamblers purchases their drinks to enjoy their time. But many are going too over board. The purchase of their liquor and drinking has caused drunk driving, and more crimes neighbors have said. The community of Wild cat Canyon says the number of accidents due to drinking coming from the casino since 2003 has raised from 5 to 10 in 2006. But casino says liquor is only limited to those who have the money to purchase it. And that the purchase of customers buying liquor is only about 25%. Barona Casino and Wild cat Canyon’s community have been fighting for the case and will soon be taken to trial. Neighbors are hoping they could restrict the sell of alcohol in the casino. Community claims alcoholism is bring everyone at risk and danger. I believe that the neighbors do have a point about the alcohol sale at the casino. Because it can be very dangerous especially if someone is drunk driving at night when you can’t see a thing. So they do have a point but if they do happen to stop selling liquor how will this effect their business. But at the san=me time they are putting to many lives in danger, but life is all about money so hopefully things will work out.
This morning I read an article titled, "Homeless encampment near freeway entrance causes concern in Hillcrest." The encampment is near Mission Hills Health Care, a medical convalescent facility. A man named, George Carlson, could not help but be alarmed by a homeless people going in and out of a canyon just busy off Sixth Avenue in Hillcrest near the entrance to Route 163. Carlson sais them staying there makes it more probabal for danger. The most ijnteresting fact is that the police were not doing there job.
