The San Diego union tribune
To-do list may cost the city $5 billion
Today I read about the reparations and improvements for the city. Since I couldn’t do my blog on the horoscopes. Because it’s the same paper I had to do it on a boring story. In the article it said that there is a debate for upgrading the sewage plant. There are also other environmental items piling up on the city’s to do list. It says that the projects could top $5 billion. The city is addressing drinking water, storm water, wastewater, garbage, endangered species, and conservation of open space. A professor at UCSD says that we have been living on the cheap for 30 years and the bill is now coming due. His name for the scenario is politically deferred maintenance.
I think that this is a big situation and I think that they should take this little by little for us to get the best out of it. This will probably serve as an example and hopefully they can learn a lesson from this for the future.
One thing that I learned is that politicians have been ignoring this problem for thirty years and now it is back lashing to us and they cant afford it. Also that they have ignored it because it is out of the publics eye and they just do things so they can get more publicity and not because it is the right thing to do.

Today in the Union tribune article I read entitled Officials: Iraq goals not likely to be met I learned that Iraq might not meet any of the political or security goals that were set by President Bush when he declared a huge shift in US policy. While this is accruing other officials try to find more evidence to convince congress to stay in the war. The argue that The Sunni tribal leaders are turning against the Al-Qaeda and that sectarian violence is down. Bush’s feels that his plan to send more troops to Iraq would help even further and help in elections to pass more power sharing legislation. Not only that but the Prime minister of Iraq is planning to take responsibility for of Iraq’s provinces by November. The major problem in Iraq is security and not until that is taken care of will the political pieces fall into place. The goals set right now by bush are not realistic for a short term transition and that could be a problem as Bush may have to come up with a new strategy and present it to congress.
Unfortunately are presence in Iraq still seems to be needed when you start something going half way seems to create more problems, example WII. Though I despise the war in Iraq I also feel that giving up now would lead to more trouble and retaliation.
The most interesting fact in this article, to me, would be the fact that Bush set very unrealistic goals what I think would have suited that situation is if he set lower goals surpassed them and aim higher so that congress can see result instead of failure in Iraq.

Woman. 33. accused of stabbing stepdaughter, 23.

On Friday, a woman, aged 33 was accused for stabbing her step daughter in the Logan Heights neighborhood. The two were not named, but it is said that they were drinking together and an arguement broke out, leading to a fight, the results were that the step daughter, aged 23 was stabbed twice. Once in the throat, and once in the stomach. The step daughter was immidiately brought to the hospital, and is expected to live. The step mother at the time, ran from the police when they arrived, and was later arrested.
I think its a shame how people can be so cruel these days. Alcohol of course leads to anything unexpected, but a mother stabbing her step daughter is terrible. I believe the mother stabbed her, if she ran, then she did it. Its not okay to run from the police because they will automatically think you did it. I wish there was more information on the story.

This morning I read an article about a murder-suicide at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina on Friday. It was titled Two Found Dead at Hotel ID’d as L.A.-area couple. Investigators think Harold M. Kent 54, lethally shot his girlfriend Lisa K. Walsh 43, before turning the gun on himself. The victims were identified as a Los Angeles area couple. A guest in the next room allegedly heard screams of a woman, followed by numerous gun shots at 7:45 pm, San Diego homicide investigators said. When police entered the room on the seventh floor they found two people dead. I t looked to be a murder-suicide based on the evidence in the room and the position of the bodies. Both victims were fitness trainers and possibly might have been in town for a fitness convention. The most interesting fact I thought was that the police figured they were in town for a fitness convention. What made them think that. The only reason I would think that would be because possibly their hotel reservations were for the same days as the convention. That’s just my presumption.

HE’S LOW-PROFILE NO LONGER
Sunroad’s reclusive owner speaks out

For the last 30 years, Aaron Feldman spent most of his time taking care of his company and doing it quiet enough to not be noticed by the public. Finally, after all this time, he got caught. The way Feldman got caught was the new high-rise next to a busy airport. The building violated federal height limits due to being built 20 feet too high. This began to draw unwanted attention. More questions for the builder came up when Major Jerry Sanders finally ordered last month that the top floors need to be torn down. Although Sanders knew about the problem 8 months prior, it took him this long to do something about it. Feldman, a Mexican citizen, is worth as much as half a billion dollars.
I think this guy should have thought about what could happen for building the Sunroad too high. Feldman should have never added those stories in there if he knew there wasn’t going to be enough space. I agree with the writer of this column because they back up the sides of all the people affected by this outcome.

For today’s article I read about the little league pitchers. It was about how more under age kids are getting broken arms, and ripping their tendons. The article also wrote about how more youngsters are playing too much baseball through out the year. On average kids need to play up to five months, but most of these kids are playing year round with all the different types of leagues that there is. Theirs winter ball to travel ball and then the regular season. Most of these kids are playing mostly because of their parents. The article also wrote about how doctors have been doing more of the arm surgeries than before. because of this, now a days there is a limit to how many balls a kid is aloud to throw during a game. It is eighty five, but officials are still thinking that that is too much.
My thoughts on this is that, this decision is a good one and a bad one. I think it is good because less kids will probably get hurt, and I think it’s a bad one because there is probably going to be a lot of complaints. This is also good because more of the good pitchers will be able to make it to the pros.
The most interesting fact is how much the percentage of the players has increased.

Union Tribute
Article: For a run to L.A & back, Amtrak’s the way to go in style & out of traffic
Amtrak is a fast and easy way to enjoy along ride. Arriving to Santa Fe in Downtown and taking all the way up to L.A.’s union station. This Pacific Surfliner runs 12 daily round trips. If you ever wish to go further, there are 5 trains extended to Santa Barbra & other 2 continue on to San Luis Obispo. For early birds first train leaves Santa Fe, SD at 6:10 AM and to those who just can’t get enough of L.A last train to San Diego departs at 10:10 PM. Most days you won’t find the seats in the Amtrak so packed, but there are those summer days where you’ll see no empty seats and have no other choice but to stand. This way of traveling is so easy all you have to do is arrive at Santa Fe at the time desired for your train, hope on sit back and enjoy your ride. If you’re have a feeling for hunger the Amtrak also has a Café on the first level in the second cart. You have many choices between pre-made sandwiches or pizzas & other fool selections or a beverage including soda or water , and even a beer or a cup of white or red wine to relaxing and enjoy your ride. I believe this is a fabulous way to travel fast and easy to Los Angeles without that L.A. traffic. Quick and easy travel with Amtrak, just sit back chill, and enjoy you ride while looking at a view of the Ocean on the West.

+ San Diego Union Tribune; The Luck of the Sevens
+ On Saturday, July 7, 2007 gamblers and engaged couples take advantage of special date. Even the signs on the route to Viejas Casino seemed to cash in on the marketing that molded Saturday. There was the 70 mph speed-limit sign near another casino seven miles away. Closer, a sign promoted Viejas as the best casino seven years in a row. And closer still, a sign urged people in an emergency to “call 911.” Nine minus one minus one is seven. On this day of days for the numerically inclined, casinos cried out to anyone searching for luck and maybe some air conditioning. And people responded, though not all of them knew that the date mirrored the triple seven combo.
+ The article I chose to read about this morning was actually interesting because I also thought that Saturday was a lucky day just because of the triple seven date.

A father figure to Holocaust Survivors.
Today I have read a story in the newspaper about a man who helped many holocaust survivors. Rabbi Abraham Klausner was the first Jewish chaplain in the U.S. Army to arrive at the Dachau concentration camp after its liberation in 1945. This man that helped many people died June 28 at his home in Santa Fe, NM. He was 92. The reason he died was complications of a disease he had. He wrote several books about Jewish faith and inter faith weddings. Another rabbi said that Klausner was “ the father figure” for more than 30,000 emaciated survivors found at Dachau. This man was born in April 27, 1915. His parents were Joseph Klausner and Tillie Binstalk. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1938. he also graduated from Hebrew Union College in 1941. In 1986 Klausner wrote “ Weddings: A Complete Guide to All Religious and Interfaith Marriage. For Rabbi Klausner refusing to marry was a mistake. It was a very traumatic experience to have a clergyman reject your judgment. This man was great and many people liked him. I think that this is a good man. I believe that it is good for them to recognize him for his help.
