THE LINES FORMED EARLY FOR TOLL-ROAD PROMOTION

Early yesterday, tired commuters planted themselves on the cold, dark sidewalk waiting for relief. More than 3 dozen people with different city jobs waited in line for as long as 16 hours. This was to be one of the first people to get a toll account for the region’s newest highway. It was named the South Bay Express--the regions first toll way. The freeway is to go through Otay Mesa, Chula Vista and Bonita. The north and south freeway stretch will connect with the southern end of the 125. Yesterday, the company developing the roadway opened a customer service center on La Media Road in Otay Mesa offering goodies to those showing up first. Dover Hernandez, the first one in line, received a year of free tolls for his trouble.
---- ----
I think this freeway will be very important to business. A lot of people need to access the South Bay in a quickly manner and this will solve the problem. I agree with the news paper because I think the toll road is very much needed. It is said that the freeway will be completed in late September.

Article: Officials cleared in ’68 student killings
In Mexico City, federal court has dismissed charges on former president Luis Echeverria for taking responsibilities on October 2, 1968 when university students in Mexico City, Tlateloco Plaza, were shot at by soldiers. As many as 350 have died, stated human rights activist, but officials reports say that only 25 have been killed from this incident. Chief judge of the case, Jesus Guadalupe ordered the massacre as a set up prearranged genocide desired to take away many lives from students at universities. Judge also messaged that there was no evidence found with Echeverria and the killings. Court ordered to dismiss house arrest on Echeverria. Echieverria, 85 has stated no responsibilities for the massacre & claimed blame on Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, former president from 1964 to 1970. Later the court made a statement that Echeverria has a probability to have some contact w/ the deaths of the students or some kind of homicide, but since statue of limits expired in 1985, nothing can be done. My over all feelings after I read this article was disappointment, because many things have happened in Mexico & nothing can ever be done for these deaths except the remembrance of the people from the universities who have now past away.

I read about how Fresno was battling high temperatures for a week. Gusting winds and lightning, firefighters caught enough of a break from a storm system to tame California’s largest wildfire. The blaze in California’s Inyo National Forest was in “mop-up mode” after blackening nearly 55 square miles. Officials there were sending the fire crews to help out elsewhere. Forest officials reopened roads, campgrounds and trailheads affected by the 35,000 acre fire. People were saying the fire was moving very slowly and kind of creeping around in that very steep country. The Inyo fire has cost $3.2 million to fight, injured 11 firefighters and destroyed six homes in the area north of Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the continental United States. I thought that it was interesting how five of the top-priority wildfires were in Utah, where crews are fighting the biggest blaze in state history.

+ Morning After Pill Sales Double in Year
+ The popularity of the morning after pill is known as Plan B. Plan B has surged in the year since Ferderal Government approved the sale of the contraceptive without a prescription. Plan B sales have doubled since Food & Drug Administration authorized the switch for women 18 and older last August, rising about $40 million a year to what will probably be close to $80 million for 2007, according to Barr Pharmaceuticals. People view the pill as easy access to birth control to help unwanted pregnancies without going through the hassle of getting birth control. Some people differ, like Charmaine Yoest of the Family Research Council, who believes this is putting women's health at risk. They are among the several groups suing the FDA to reverse the decision.
+ I don't have a really big say in this because I am only 17 but I do think that this should be prescribed because some women don't know how to use it properly and could get seriously ill. Also, just because women are over 18 does not mean they are smart and women could easily become addicted.

China to check food safety
This article is about how one of Americas Chinese importers cheated them. China central television showed a shirtless short clad bun maker in Beijing using card board that he picked up of the street to stuff his steamed buns. there was a hidden camera following the man into a building. There were steamers with these so called buns. these buns are usually filled with some kind of pork but the baker decided to use old cardboard because it was cheaper then having to buy the meet. first the baker soaked the card board in a plastic container filled with caustic soda a chemical that used to manufacture paper than he used soap which he chopped in to tiny pieces .then he added some old left over fatty pork and some seasoning salt. all these disgusting things were stuffed into the buns. the u.s. food and drug administration decide that they would ban imports of five species of Chinese food until there importers can prove that there food is not contaminated with medications or chemicals of any kind.
I think that is very disgusting the way that they stuffed there food with card board from the floor.
I feel that this will make allot of people reconsider eating Chinese food
I thought that the u.s made a wise choice in banning there imports.

The article I read today was about a deputy who uses excessive-force in the line of duty, and is now being prosecuted in court. His name is Mark Ritchie, and he is now faced with three accounts of excessive-force. He shot the son of Benny Ramirez six times for suspect of robbery, while he lay on the ground because of a previous gunshot. He has also confessed to once kicking a hand cuffed murder suspect. But in the end it will be hard to convince the jury that he committed a crime. I think that this is a wrongdoing and that this officer should be guilty for the crimes he has committed. I really don’t think that when any type of law enforcement, especially police officers, go to court for crimes, are not equally fair as with regular people.

This morning I read an article titled Man who burned himself to death ID’d by coroner. Earlier this week in the east county near Mt. Helix, a mans burned body was found. The County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body as 22 year old Inal Irengun. Investigators said Irengun burned to death Tuesday after setting himself on fire. The body was found on Vista Monte Drive around 8 a.m. in a lot about 50 feet from a parked, white Lexus. A witness saw the car around 4:30 a.m. but didn’t see the body until later on. I thought the most interesting fact was that the man burned himself alive.

TutkeL Deputy in fatal shootings is no stranger to scrutiny.

Summary:
Within the last 3 years of patrolling San Diego County’s streets, Deputy Mark Ritchie has been apart of two fatal shootings and also been involved in 3 lawsuits of excessive force and testified once that he kicked a handcuffed murder suspect. The state Attorney General’s Office said that the district attorney was right on not prosecuting Ritchie for the killing of Jorge Ramirez. Jorge Ramirez was a robbery suspect who was shot 6 times while he laid on the ground, wounded by a previous gun shot. The attorney general's said that it would be difficult to convince a jury that Ritchie committed a crime. There have been 5 Latino men shot to death by sheriff’s deputies in Vista in 2005. Bonnie Dumanis cleared the deputies of wrongdoing in all five cases. Ritchie said that after he wounded Ramirez, he shot him six times in the chest to “eliminate” the threat he posed because he feared two other robbers would ambush him from behind. Ramirez’s parents sued the deputy in federal court on claims of excessive force and wrongful death. Less than two years after the Ramirez shooting, Ritchie was involved in a second fatal shooting.

Reflection:
I don’t think that it’s fair for the police to use their badges as an excuse to shoot at people whom are committing a crime, I believe that shooting at the criminal should only happen if it is seriously life threatening to the officer. By personal experience, I had a friend who was shot in the back by the NCPD just because the police “thought” my friend was going to turn around and shoot at them.

Union tribune.
Today I have read a story about a deputy killing 5 people in 2005. He was involved in a fatal shooting on June 29, 2005. Deputy Ritchie was working for 15 hours when investigating a report of a robbery at a Vista Store. Ritchie was not one of the officers sent to cover the robbery but he still passed by. He started looking for the robbers. About 9 pm he came across a Jeep that matched the description. It was being followed by a small sedan. Ritchie flashed his spotlight and pulled alongside the Jeep. Three people ran from the Jeep and Ritchie run after Ramirez. Ritchie fired 11 shots as Ramirez ran away form him. Ritchie fired five more shots and hit Ramirez in the right thigh. Ramirez then fell to the ground. Ritchie told sheriff’s investigators that he reloaded and fired six shots into Ramirez's chest killing him. Later they realized that Ramirez had a folding knife clipped near his front right pocket. Ritchie said that he had shot Ramirez because he feared for his life and he was alone in the dark with 3 people and he did not know it they would want to attack him. He said that he had no flashlight, the battery on his police radio was dying and he could not tell if other deputies were en route to help. He said that he did not feel comfortable tackling or doing anything like that specially science it was very dark and he could not see what was going on. They did not want to get deputy Ritchie in jail. Ramirez family wishes justice would have been served. I think that they should put deputy Ritchie in jail because he shot a man and he did not attack him. I believe that maybe shooting him the first time is fine because he did not kill him. But the second time he fired and Ramirez was on the ground defense less and he didn’t do anything that would make the deputy want to fire him. I believe that they should at least take his badge away from him.
