Today's article was about a man named Marcelo Cruz this man was a victim of a shooting about seven years ago . The victim was left paralyzed from the waist down. But some how Cruz was still able to drive .then one Wednesday he drove down the interstate 35w bridge. He then began to feel the bridge begin to shake. He saw a ton of cars coming strait at him. All those cars hit the water. Cruz's car would not stop. He felt once again that his life was coming to an end .Cruz drove his car into a wall stopping the car and getting him to safety . This catastrophe took place around 6pm on a Wednesday . Cruz then called his mother. His mother cwotted on cnn that her son was touched by the virgin Mary because out of those 20 cars he was the only survivor. I felt that this incident was a true blessing of Jesus because this man has faced death twice and both times survived. I think that Cruz learned lots from the accident and will live his life to the fullest . I thought that this was a truly a miracle.
Title: Woman sentenced to jail for stealing from school foundation
10 Sentence Summary: In East county a lady was getting sentenced to one year in jail. This happened on August 2, 2007. The reason why she was getting sent to jail was because she stole more than $100,000 from the nonprofit foundation that she was running. She was the former president and the foundation was in charge of funding money for an East County school district. The superior court judge said that she violated the position of trust she had. The woman that was found guilty of stealing was 48 year old Pamela Adams. Along with a year sentenced she was ordered to pay $55,639 in addition to the $93,000 she had already paid back. The D/A said that Adams was continuously stealing money from the foundation, even after she inherited $500,000 from her parents five years ago. Adams pleaded guilty in May to the felony grand theft charge and also included that she was sorry. She blamed depression and the challenges of raising two special-needs children. She said she found an outlet for her problems through shopping.
3 Sentence Reflection: I think that what the lady did is scandalous because she was taking money from the fundation when she already had $500,000 in her name that’s selfish. I also think that it’s stupid for her to use her special needs children as an excuse for her stealing the money. I agree with the people that she worked with by not showing sympathy for Adams because she should have thought twice about it. Maybe this article will make people realize that it’s not only the minorities committing crimes, but it’s also white people.
Minneapolis bridge collapse kills 7 In Minneapolis interstate bridge collapsed. Bridge cracked into 4 or 5 parts. Cars went jamming into the Mississippi River. Interstate bridge was in with traffic when the bridge suddenly cracked. Many cars fell into the river, while others where pilled up on each other meanwhile the tragic collapse. One person was said to have drowned, but there have many found severely injured. Reports from the Minnesota Department of Transportation said that the bridge was last checked for maintance in 2005, 2006. department is saying that no issues where found. And that there was even a few new things added to the bridge like light structure, resurfacing, & guard railing as well. But that there could have been a possibility that this tragedy may have a chance to do with some kind of terrorism. My opinion about this tragedy is that I really don’t believe that It could have been something to do with terrorism. But maybe they didn’t check right when they where looking for any types of problems in the bridge. Or maybe there where to many cars added onto to much weight stuck on the bridge in traffic, being that the bridge was getting to old already and been worn out by the years.
▫ SD Union Tribune ▫ "When you eat it, it's like dying." ▫ This morning's article was on a farmer in India that has been eating the chili pepper all his life. His mother used to stir them into sauces and his wife puts them on the dinner plate with whatever she's serving. In the hills of northern India it is called the "Bhut Jolokia" or the "Ghost Chili." Anyone who has tried it, they say, could end up an apparition. The smallest morsels can flavor a sauceso intensively it's barely edible. An entire chili is an all-out assault on the senses, akin to swigging a cocktail of battery acid and glass shards. With scientific proof, Bhut Jolokia has found its way into the Guinness World Records book- it has more than one million Scotville units; the scientific measurement of chili's spiciness. Northern India is taking there chili to the outside world. ▫ The most interesting thing I got out of reading this article was that a chili could be important enough to make the newspaper.
An 8 lane bridge on interstate 35W collapsed Wednesday. The bridge was jammed with rush hour traffic when it suddenly broke into huge sections into the Mississippi River. The catastrophe threw dozens of cars into the river and so far at least seven people are reported dead. Officials say the numbers could rise with all the debris and hunks of broken roadway still intact. So far it is unclear what caused the disaster, although it was under repair and it had several lanes closed when it crumbled. As the concrete tore apart, at least 50 vehicles on the bridge fell. Several of the vehicles caught fire and one tractor-trailer was sheared in half. So far one person has drowned, and most of the survivors were seriously hurt. I think that what happened could not have been prevented. It is very unfortunate that all those people were hurt and this did bring a lot of media attention. This was the worst disaster that has happened in Minnesota and it is now a part of its history. Witnesses described a lamppost-shaking rumble at 6:05 p.m.
*No riders on the storm I was watching the X-games last night, Bob Burnquist won the “Big Air Skateboard event; gold. The skaters no longer need to study weather reports, because the event has moved inside Staples Center. Macdonald and Burnquist agree that moving Big Air indoors, before a packed audience, should create quite a show. Bob and other skaters said that the ramp scared them because they were going a lot faster, and all the airs were a lot higher. Skaters swoop down a ramp, reaching speeds approaching 45 mph. If lucky, they clear a 55-foot gap, landing skating down another ramp, then fly up a 27-foot quarter pipe, where they attempt to spot a trick, rolling cleanly atop their board. Burnquist clearly in the favorite’s seat♣♣♣
This morning I read an article titled Ban on novelty lighters likely to start on Sept. 13. In El Cajon, the city council voted last week to ban lighters that resemble toys. A second vote is scheduled for the council’s August 14th meeting. The law could take effect as early as September 13th. El Cajon could become the second city in the county to ban these lighters. National city was the first to adopt the law in May . The lighters are sold at smoke shops, liquor stores, and convenience stores. Novelty lighters could look a lot like toys such as robots, animals and cars. A number of which may have flashing lights or play music. The executive director of the San Diego Burn Institute Jim Floros said San Diego, Chula Vista, Solana Beach, and Vista are in view of similar laws. Legislation banning novelty lighters in California is likely to be introduced in January, Floros stated. The Fire Chief of El Cajon, Mike Scott, thinks the ban on novelty lighters may help avoid fires started by adolescents. I thought the most interesting was that they are actually banning these lighters. I didn’t think they would go through with it.
This morning I read an article that was based on a 62 year old woman. On August 2, 2007 in West Palm Beach fla, the 62 year woman had charges pressed against her. They were filed yesterday. She had fraudulently adopted 11 children that were from New York and was badly mistreating them. She used them just to get money from their welfare, she had atleast got 2 million dollars from the child welfare agency. She can face up to 190 years in prison, if she goes down for all of the charges. She did horrible things to the little kids she would handcuff them, not feed them, let them sleep there handcuffed. STRAIGHT UP ABUSED THEM.
I think that woman should suffer her consequences. She doesn't deserve to be out of custody and should remain encarcerated. Those poor children. I dont understande why people or why she would do such a thing. dannnngg ://
Since school is out, it is going to be very hard to get a job during the summer. The Center for Labor Market Studies estimates that this summer about 64% of 16-19 year olds will not have a job. That is the worst rate recorded in the last 57 years. All the teenagers are on the hunt for a job. It is said that increasing the minimum wage destroys jobs for low skilled workers while doing little to address poverty. By hiring less teens during the summer, makes it possible to pay all the workers. Minimum wage has gone up. High school kids who just spend their work money, and students trying to get through college are the first to be predicted to get fired. Not having a high school diploma also makes it hard to keep a job, when the minimum wage has gone up. Businesses are beginning to think about who they should hire. Experience is starting to take up its name.
I think its crazy how minimum wage goes up, I also hate how jobs are harder to get now. Especially at my age. I'm currently looking for a job that is a lot better than my old one, now im worried that i won't beable to get a job. But since it say's they are looking for people with high school diplomas and experienced workers, im pretty sure i can find jobs. Especially since summer is basically over.
Sunni Group quits Cabinet; 142 Iraqis killed in attacks. In Baghdad, the Iraqi capital shook with bombings yesterday as the largest Sunni Arab bloc quit the government and a suicide attacker blew up his fuel tanker in one of several attacks that killed 142 people nationwide. The U.S military announced the deaths of four American soldiers, including three killed in Baghdad on Tuesday by a powerful armor-piercing bomb. Washington says these types of bombs are set form Iran. The fourth soldier was killed by small arms fire on the same day. The American military announced it found a mass grave in Diyala province northeast of the Capital. The grave contained 17 bodies of mostly Sunni Muslims. These graves had women, children and elderly people killed by al-Qaeda in Iraq. Altogether at least 142 Iraqis were killed or found dead including 70 in three separate bombings yesterday. The violence was said happened after July ended as the second deadliest month for Iraqis. It was also the lowest U.S death toll in eight months. I think that what is happening over there is terrible. I also think that our military men should come home and leave those people there. Leave them alone, to fight against each other.
