The man who collects Apples.

A man by the name of Jeremy Mehrle collects Apple computers. Many of the computers that he has bought were bought from schools. He has a count of 100 computers. Starting from the very first Apple computer created updated to todays Macintosh computer. Most of them are on display in the basement of his Missouri home. He started collecting because he had an empty house and decided to just get a lot of computers. 30 Macintosh classics were purchased from schools. The Apple Lisa, which is very rare, he bought from Ebay. 18 computers of the orignial Imac computers are for gaming with his friends. He also has a row of mac computers starting from the original macintosh all the way to the 20th anniversary macintosh. The 20th anniversary Macintosh was made to celebrate its 20th anniversary of apple. It sold for $10,000.00 and if you actually bought it for that price, a limo would be dropped of to your house with a guy to set up your computer for you. Jeremy bought it off of ebay for about $800. Jeremy says he is not going to stop collecting, he plans on buying every type of computer Apple is going to create. He still has many computer to catch up with.

-CNN news
-Immigration activist arrested after year in church
-The article that I read today was about An illegal immigrant who stayed in an Illinois church for a year to avoid separation from her 8-year-old son, a U.S. citizen. She was arrested Sunday and was being processed for deportation. It says that Elvira Arellano, who arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday after leaving her sanctuary to campaign for immigration reform, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. outside Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she had been speaking to reporters, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist, the Chicago, Illinois, church. It says that she was "being processed for removal to Mexico based upon a deportation order originally issued by a federal immigration judge in 1997," U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.
-I think that it is messed up what they are doing to her. I say this because I think that what they don’t want from immigrants is that they come over here to do bad things but she wasn’t doing anything bad. It said that she was working cleaning airplanes.
-One interesting thing that I learned is that she had a lot of support from many people like that activists promised protests and vigils to support her. From people like Javier Rodriguez a Chicago immigration activist who worked with her, who said "We are sad, but at the same time we are angry," "How dare they arrest this woman?"

♥ CNN News
♥ Reports: Man pulled baby from quake ruins
♥ This morning I read an article on how a man saved a baby's life. It started with the collapse of the San Clemente church in Lima, Peru. The church collapsed seven hours after an earthquake that leveled the Peruvian city of Pisco on Saturday. The man's name was Romulo Palomino and he saved a 10 month-old baby. Palomino said he was searching up and down frantically through the adobe and wood rubble of the church when he discovered the infant in a pile of broken timbers. At first he thought the baby was dead until he felt a heart beat. When he began to wash him up the baby started sneezing and crying. He later told the press that finding the little one alive is a comfort that he will now take with him for the rest of his life.
♥ This story had a powerful meaning but I don't think the writer really noticed. It's not a coincidence that the baby survived in a pile of ruins, it's because the baby was in the church... =)

Title: San Diego Union Tribune
This article is about a U.S. citizen held for 3 years as an enemy combatant named Jose Padilla was convicted last Thursday of helping Islamic extremists and plotting overseas attacks in a case that became a symbol of the Bush Administration’s war on terrorism. But it was hardly a complete victory for the government. Padilla was arrested in the months following the 2001 terrorist attacks, authorities counted him as a key al-Qaeda operative who planned to detonate a radioactive “dirty bomb” in a U.S. city… That allegation never made it to court. Jose Padilla was declared an “unlawful enemy combatant” and jailed in a Navy brig in South Carolina without charges for 3 and a half years. The three men were accused of being part of a North American support cell that provided supplies, money and recruits to groups of Islamic extremists. The defense contended they were trying to help persecuted Muslims in war zones with relief and humanitarian aid.

TRANSIT BOARD OKs HIGHER BUS FARES

San Diego’s regional transit board is facing a $9.2 million funding shortage. They voted unanimously to increase bus fares, eliminate transfers and reduce or discontinue certain bus routes. Metropolitan Transit System officials also agreed to increase paid advertising at some transit stops, including some older buses and trolleys to be covered with wrap-around ads. MTS approved these budget amendments on Thursday which will begin January 1. Board member Toni Atkins who generally opposes fare increases implied that there was no way to avoid one. She also said that state bond measures haven’t brought as much money as expected. The article said this is the first increase in fares in more than four years and is going up another 25 cents in Jan. 2009. Officials also say that in the new fiscal year, there will be a $5 day pass that can be purchased on the bus.

I think that this increase will not effect many people because it on 25 cents. People depend on the city to give them transportation if they don’t have any. The situation with the wrap-around ads on the buses may also give a nice look to San Diego. I am left unsettled by this article because I receive a bus pass.

About 55,000 trips each weekday are covered by the $1.75 fare.

whole foods merging

Today in the business section I read an article about a merging of two organic food companies. Experts are worried since these two companies are the ones that hold ownership of the leading brands of organic and whole foods. This means that when the two companies merge they will hold monopoly over whole food and organic products. The Federal Trade Commission is against this merging because of the risk of putting small business out of work. Yet the court that FTC appealed to in order to block Wild Oats is not on the FTC’s side since they are approving this monopoly. The companies assure that this merge is creating great opportunities for many people and that it is creating many jobs and higher positions on the job force that will benefit the workers and will pay higher salaries.

Troubled charter school may close
It’s just a few days before students at Children’s Conservation Academy in City Heights return to class, who teaches students from grades kinder-sixth grade. When there has been a new announcement made that there is a high probability that they may close down the school. San Diego School District states that the school is in debt for more than $97,000in fees and for various services. The school recently reinstated its board of directors and fired it’s executive director Nicole Decatur. Leaving their new school board three members short, instead of the normal ten. The new members recently had canceled a meeting due to the less number of members and has rescheduled for Monday. Many parent have said that it will be a disappointment to shut down the school since the school is such a great place for their kids. Another parent of one of the students that attends the charter school states that the school is a good school, except it lack management of the school, which could help benefit a lot. I believe that maybe they should give the school another chance. Maybe a time period to pay for all their debts and then if they cannot maybe they could just replace the management but leave it still as a school that way so the kids and parent swill still have somewhere to go.
